Phototherapy

Phototherapy is a medical treatment that uses light to treat various medical conditions. It is also known as light therapy or photobiomodulation. Phototherapy involves exposing the skin or body to specific wavelengths of light for a specific amount of time to promote healing or relieve symptoms.
There are several types of phototherapy, including:
- UV phototherapy: This type of phototherapy uses ultraviolet (UV) light to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and vitiligo.
- Blue light therapy: Blue light therapy is used to treat acne by killing the bacteria that cause it.
- Red light therapy: Red light therapy is used to promote healing and reduce inflammation. It is often used to treat conditions such as arthritis and chronic pain.
- Narrowband UVB therapy: This type of phototherapy uses a specific wavelength of UV light to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and vitiligo.
- Intense pulsed light therapy (IPL): IPL therapy uses a broad spectrum of light to treat skin conditions such as rosacea, sun damage, and age spots.
Phototherapy is generally considered safe, but there are some risks associated with it. It is important to discuss the risks and benefits of phototherapy with your healthcare provider before undergoing the treatment.
